LESSON TEN - “Spiritual Gifts Survey”
Class materials:
< Individual results from Spiritual Gifts Survey < Spiritual Gifts Key < “Making the Most of Your Spiritual Gifts”
Introduction:
God uses servants that are willing to be used in great ways for the Kingdom. Can you think of biblical examples of people he used in mighty ways?
During this series, some qualifications for a servant that God will use in a mighty way have been highlighted. Consider some of these qualifications: a. This servant will have influence within the church body; b. This servant will have the willingness to serve on a ministry team; c. This servant is trusted among the people; d. This servant is equipped and empowered for the ministry task; e. This servant is gifted and maturing in Christ; f. This servant is responsible.
Do you agree?
Digging Deeper:
1. With this lead-in, I would then recommend that you return the spiritual gifts survey to each person who completed such last Sunday. Take a minute and have each person review and contemplate the results which reflect their top five primary gifts. a. What about those people who have not taken the survey? First refer them to the website (www.pvcc.org); if they do not have the internet, ask them to pick a printed copy up from the office to complete on their own time. b. What about those with problems from their tests from last week (either no name or uncompleted survey)? Have them try to identify their test if they didn’t put their name down. If they didn’t finish, a form letter will be attach to make sure they do—otherwise they cannot get their results. c. For those reviewing their results: emphasize the nature of the survey. It is not a test. Discernment is needed—pay attention to the scoring in the categories for drop-offs.
2. Hand out the materials entitled “Spiritual Gifts Key.” This is a comprehensive list of all 19 spiritual gifts, a definition of each, and scripture references corresponding to each respective gift.
3. Hand out the materials entitled “Making the Most of your Spiritual Gifts.” Please review and consider with the class some of the different ministry areas and the corresponding gifts which are most often utilized by those serving in each respective area. a. Use this as an opportunity to refer to a couple of people in your class who so obviously are using their gifts in service in some specific ministry area. 1. Let this be a time of affirmation for that person—encourage them yourself and ask for feedback from the class for the ways that person has been using their gifts. 2. If you prefer, you may want to touch base with a couple people before class to prepare. Being spontaneous would be fine, too. You know your class.
4. We’ve been trying in this series to create some movement and cast a vision for this church where everyone is using their gift(s) in at least one ministry area. Without question, we’ve been trying to inspire and energize people. The best I can tell, the ministry leaders in this church have been in a “volunteer retention mode.” That is radically different from the “volunteer acquisition mode” that needs to drive all our ministry areas! All of our ministry areas need to be looking to double or triple the number of volunteers that are actively participating. We must create a volunteer revolution!
Conclusion:
We’ve come to the climax of our series and next Sunday we are asking that you come with a heart ready to pledge to the Lord your gifts in service to the kingdom advance in this place. Encourage your students to spend time in prayer this week as they prepare to respond to the Ministry Involvement Survey.
