At first, there didn’t seem to be an attraction between Clay and Denise. Both of them were happily married with young children. In recent months, both of them had received a promotion at work and their positions moved them to working together. They began to travel together on business trips and they instantly found they had similar wants and desires that their spouses didn’t possess. They discovered they attended the same type of church, but attended different churches. Their goals at work were linked, which meant that they must spend more time together to strategize and plan out their objectives. In just a few short months, they began to isolate themselves from their families and focus on each other. They began to talk on their cell phones on weekends and often at nights after their kids went to bed.
Clay began picturing her in his personal life. He began asking himself whether or not he married the right woman even though he had been married to his wife for eighteen years. Clay’s wife began to notice a change in him and began to ask questions which infuriated Clay. He started pushing away. He began making excuses for his behavior and as his wife inquired about his behavior, he would allow anger to consume him.
Denise also began having issues at home. She began making excuses for her unhappiness. She would share with Clay that her husband didn’t do anything to help her around the house. All he would do is play with the kids and make her out to be the disciplinarian and she was the one who did all of the cooking and cleaning. What once was an argument became a screaming match. They used to spend Friday nights with the kids for movie night, but now she creates reasons for them not to be together.
Then….Clay’s wife overheard a conversation between Clay and Denise…
