October held the final class of the bible institute on October 2. We had a good last class and a little extra time to visit. I really enjoyed the last seven months and am sure I learned as much as my students did.
In my last days with the brothers before my trip home, we worked out all the responsibilities that would need to be taken over in my absence. I am very hopeful that these three months will help some of the men grow as leaders. I kind of feel like I am leaving the kids at home alone and am hoping they make wise choices. We had 10 baptisms in the region during my time there and it is hard to leave such young Christians. Hopefully they will take care of each other and continue to grow. There were also 5 people who returned to the church that had at one time been faithful members. If everyone would come on the same Sunday, the Puerto Montt church would be almost double what it was when I started work January 08.
I have to admit it was much harder than I thought it would be to be down there so far from friends, family, and culture. But the work was plenty and I know they were grateful for all the brothers in the states that sacrificed to send someone to help them. Thank you all for your notes, emails, and prayers. They were all needed and appreciated.
I am very much looking forward to time back where people know what ‘ya’ll’ means. If I have not been able to see you yet, I will be looking forward to it! Please feel free to drop me an email.
This will actually be my last report for the next three months as I am on leave in the states. I hope you all won’t forget about me by then! I will be back to sending reports after the first month of work in March. I truly hope all of you have a wonderful holiday season with friends and family.
God Bless,
Andrew Levi Sherrill
