Hello friends and family.

August was a very cold month with lots of rain. At one point, it rained for 15 days strait. I love the rain, but I have to admit that was a bit much. You can feel your mood change after going for that long without sun. Still, you can find a bright side to every situation, and the cold weather has given me a reason to sit by the fire in the evenings. That is always a nice way to finish the day. I don’t know what I will do if someday I move back to a warm climate.

I have found a new challenge to life in Chile. It seems that in the cold weather that many people bring there pets indoors. That is very nice and considerate, but they have the tendency to bring fleas in with the pets. I have had a terrible time keeping them out of my house as they tend to ride around on these hospitable pet owners. I am attacked frequently when I make house calls, but the worse thing is that they are brought into my house when people come to see me in my office. I am sure there are worse things, but it isn’t much fun to wake up in the middle of the night being munched on by tiny unseen monsters. You have to just smile and shake your head because there isn’t a lot I can do about it. Just don’t laugh if I am bit-up when I get back to the states.

The month of August was our last full month of classes for the Bible Institute before my trip home. September has a weekend off for the celebration of their independence day and October I will be traveling to Brazil for 10 days to a men’s retreat for Latin American missionaries. My students are a bit less inclined to get out in the dark cold evenings after a long week. But the topics have been interesting and I hope they enjoy delving into the word as much as I have.

The visits from some of the brothers in Santiago over the last 6 months has been good for the spirit of the church here in Puerto Montt. That will continue in October with another activity to help the members reach out to friends and family. I have encouraged them to look at this time as a model for what we should be doing all the time. It is interesting how we as Christians can feel so strongly about our faith but not always know how to share it with those in our daily life.

I remain convinced that sharing your faith with the people in your inner circle is the best way to teach this world about our Lord. Knocking on doors and handing out tracks can’t compare to a best friend or Uncle opening up about a personal relationship with God. The fact is that we all have our own personal mission field where we can reach out and throw a lifeline to those who are without peace. If you believe it, share it with those you love.

I am excited about my visit home. I love my job, but I will be very glad to see my country again. I miss you all. God Bless.

In Him,

Andrew Levi Sherrill
