Anthony Wood, 4/22/2010 PDF Print E-mail
Dear church family,

Anthony Wood, who spoke after Jim Woodell on Sunday, April 18 (Mission Emphasis Sunday), sent this brief newsletter to Roger Pritchett, who forwarded it to me.

It’s a prayer – of thanksgiving – that gives you a sampling of how God works through your support of River City Ministry to bless the lives of people in the Little Rock / North Little Rock metroplex.

- Keith Brenton

4/22/10

She trusted him, and O Lord, how many times I’ve seen this happen. Tracy gets put out on the street, takes up with a man because it’s the “safe” thing to do—be with a man so the others won’t get you--only to be lured to a secluded place day before yesterday and be attacked, and beaten. Anger at its worst—she with bruises, black eye, and scraps that will take some to heal—he with warrant and in a worse situation now running from the law, and homeless. Sure, a bad choice, but no woman should fear violence.

Gloria comes into my office yesterday in tears to say that the man she shared an apartment with in a non-sexual relationship got drunk, then high, put a knife to her throat, forced her to perform a sexual act, then stuck the knife to her chest and told her that they should just die together. Sure, not a good roommate, but no woman deserves to be abused in such a way.

Johnny comes into my office this morning to say, “I’m depressed and almost jump off the bridge this morning coming here. I’m almost 60 years old and I can’t take care of myself. I want to work but no one will hire me. I don’t know what to do but just end it. There’s reason for me to be around. I don’t have these kind of thoughts normally, but I’m just so depressed. I just don’t know what to do.” Sure, a lot of wasted life, but every man should have an opportunity to have meaningful work as You created us to do.

Ronald came by my office soon after, “My father made us work on the farm and wouldn’t let us go to school. I’m 53 years old and I can’t read. I want to know what the Bible says for myself. I want to know God.” Sure, he had no choice when a child, but Ronald should now have the right to read Your Word for himself.

Justice, Lord, where’s Your justice when we need it the most. No matter if its ladies being attacked, a poor man who wants find work but unable to find it, or a father not allowing his children to have an education, Lord, we need Your righteous and just hand in our lives. But, as always, You come, on time, just as You promised.

Because of You, Tracy got away, and though harmed, got to the hospital, the police, and then us. Now she’s mending, he’ll be jailed, and she has the support she needs.

Because of You, Gloria is alive. She ran, we helped her report the crimes and to find shelter, and though fearful, she believes she did the right thing.

Because of You, Johnny is sleeping right outside my office right now waiting for the mental health caregivers to come and take him to a good and safe place where he can be treated.

Because of You, RCM Board chairman Jerry came over and connected Ronald with Central AR Literacy. Jerry will be his personal tutor.

But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream. Amos 5:24

Blessings,
Anthony Wood, Evangelist
