LIFE GROUP DISCUSSION GUIDE Wednesday Night, April 7, 2004 “Faith is the Victory” 5 Minutes Welcome & Prayer 10 Minutes OPEN Allow the group members to cite recent experiences of where they’ve been prayerful in making a decision(s) in faith about a specific challenge or hardship they’ve faced.
In making these decisions, how did it help to be able to look far beyond the immediate situation and respond in faith knowing that God will be with us as we face this challenge or hardship? 15-20 Minutes DIG From our study of Numbers 13-14, Israel is on the brink of realizing their dream of the Promised Land. We read here of the account of the spies going into the Promised Land and reporting back to the nation. Their reaction shows three different responses to a challenging situation:
1. The ten spies said, “We can’t . . .” 2. The Israelites said, “We won’t . . .” 3. Joshua and Caleb said, “We can . . .”
What impact does it have in your prayer life to know that God already knows the outcome of your current dilemma?
The reconnaissance mission into Canaan led the spies to bring back glowing reports about the richness and abundance of the land (Num. 13:17-27). For ten of the spies, their excitement about the land was swallowed up by their fear of the size and strength of the inhabitants and their fortified cities (13:28-29). Within reach of the promised land, the Israelites pull back from their goal. What effect did the majority report have on the people?
What do you see as the genius of the minority report submitted by Joshua and Caleb (14:6-9)?
