Dear Brethren,
A team of Christians from Houston, Texas, Nome, Alaska, Little Rock and Searcy, Arkansas worked together with the Haiti Christian Development Project (HCDP) to serve the people of Haiti in March.
We saw and treated about 2700-2800 people in medical clinics, saw 270 plus people and took out 727 teeth in dental clinics, and in the eye clinics we saw 629 patients, gave out 348 pair of reading glasses, 96 pair of distance vision glasses and 525 pair of sunglasses. Medical supplies were also distributed to the local hospital where many refugees and community people are being treated for wound care and other illness.
On the HCDP farm a front-end loader for tractor was installed and Haitians trained to use it. We continue to work on the farm preparing it for use again after it was wiped out in the 2008 floods. A cistern for water was also installed with piping to the farm house making the house more suitable for gatherings and training sessions.
There are now about 60 refugees living on the HCDP compound in town where the director Gueston Pacius lives. Pacius and the local churches are administering the aid that has been so generously donated to the refugees in the area. A water purification system was also installed on the HCDP compound while we were there.
The most significant event to occur during our trip this year was the installation of six elders in the Poteau church. After a year or more of prayer and study the brethren there had selected six men they believed qualified as elders. They wanted the brethren from the USA to help them in the installation of these men as the shepherds of this congregation of more than 160 people. Elders are not common in the church in Haiti and we were pleased to be a part of this wonderful event. These are the men who are also leaders in the community and will enable the Lord’s kingdom in Haiti to grow.
I would like to thank you again for your generous support in this good work as we partner with the people of Haiti to bless them physically and spiritually.
Because of Christ,
Dean Wright
