LIFE GROUP DISCUSSION GUIDE Wednesday Night, February 11, 2004 "God in Your Life" 5 Minutes Welcome & Prayer 10 Minutes OPEN Reflect on a time in your life when you were going through a growth experience and your awareness of the presence of God in the affairs of your life was expanded. In Rick Warren’s popular book, The Purpose Driven Life, he identifies three metaphors that teach us God’s view of life – Life is a test; Life is a trust; Life is a temporary assignment. What has happened to you recently that you now realize was a test from God? What are the greatest matters God has entrusted to you? How should the fact that life on earth is just a temporary assignment change the way you are living right now? 15-20 Minutes DIG Read Isaiah 45:5-8. It is really true – God is calling us to live for Him! How many facets of His Lordship can you identify from these verses? Read I Chronicles 29:10-13. Share one or more things that compete for the “lordship” of your life. What is the difference between something being an important part of your life and it being in “lordship” of your life? Does this passage change your perspective or help you deal with the competing forces in your life? How? Identify some ways that Satan tries to discourage you. Which one is he most effectively using on you at this point in your life (i.e., Guilt, Fear, Resentment, Bitterness, Denial, etc.)? How can you arm yourself against him? Read Romans 8:35-39. How can we treasure these truths in our hearts and allow them to become our “victory chant” that radically alters how we live? 15 Minutes REFLECT Having considered these scriptures and their implications, which of these three areas is most challenging to you? Why? Experiencing His Presence Yielding to His Lordship Claiming our Victory in Christ The most damaging aspect of contemporary living is short-term thinking. To make the most of your life, you must keep the value and vision of eternity on your heart. How will “living in light of eternity” change how you handle every relationship, task, and circumstance? 10 Minutes PRAYER TIME Go around the room tonight and allow everyone to confess the struggles you are facing in your life at this time. Spend time in prayer specifically mentioning each person’s struggle(s).
