LIFE GROUP DISCUSSION GUIDE Wednesday Night, February 4, 2004 "The Passion of the Christ" 5 Minutes Welcome & Prayer Spend time with your LIFE Group praying / talking about the outreach opportunities hosting the movie, “The Passion of the Christ,” will present to us.
• Praise God for your response to this movie! • We have a great problem- -we sold out in less that 24 hours, that’s 965 seats. • So we must work together as a family to solve the problem. • We are in the process of arranging two of the theaters to show an additional 9:00 p.m. screening. We are still in negotiations to secure the theater for this showing. • But we are moving forward. • We need you to think about which showing you can go to. We need 444 people to go to the 9’oclock showing. • The children’s ministry will only be teaching your children during the 6 p.m. screening. • So we are going to ask if you aren’t afraid of being out late or if you don’t have children to really consider signing up for the 9 o’clock showing. • For those who purchased tickets in their life groups this past Wed., we are going to ask you to write down which showing you want to attend and turn a list into the office on Thursday and then the following Wednesday we will give you the tickets. 10 Minutes OPEN It’s so exciting to see the enthusiasm that has been generated as we all are actively inviting our family, friends, and associates to come with us to see “The Passion of The Christ.” Why do you suspect we’ve become so energized by this opportunity to “sharing our faith”?
Interesting enough, while preparing for this big effort, we’ve been challenged this past Sunday Night by our new outreach ministry to Hispanics here in Little Rock. 15-20 Minutes DIG Over the last ten years, what are your observations about the changes in the Hispanic population in our area? And across the country? associates to come with Here in Little Rock, what are some societal and demographic indicators you have observed about the Hispanics that have come to our city (i.e., From what countries are they coming from? In what part of town are they locating? Is it primarily the males who are moving here for work? Are the males coming here first and establishing themselves and then bringing their families? What kind of work are they doing? Do you believe that many of them are here as illegal immigrants?)
Have any of you had any dealings (of any kind) with a Hispanic? How would you characterize the Hispanic people with which you have dealt?
Please consider these passages: Acts 13:46-48; Acts 15:6-11; Romans 1:16-17; Galatians 3:26-29. How should we as Christians commit ourselves to ministering to this and other ethnic groups which are growing dramatically in our city?
How do you feel about the approach we have taken in supporting the Hispanic preaching training school which is a cooperative effort of several churches here in Little Rock? What more would you like to learn about this mission effort we support? 15 Minutes REFLECT In real terms, how do you allow the language barrier to deter you from engaging with Hispanic people (and others who are not like us)? Is avoidance the Christian way? For those who were in worship this past Sunday Night, what was it like to experience some of the worship through a translator? How did that change your worship experience? 10 Minutes PRAYER TIME More than ever, let’s go fishing. Remember the empty chair. Pray for some of our LIFE Groups which have just birthed a new group . . . or those who are making plans for such in the coming weeks.
Pray specifically for our efforts in using the movie, “The Passion of The Christ,” to share our faith.
