LIFE GROUP DISCUSSION GUIDE
Wednesday Night, February 21, 2007
“For the Road Ahead”
5 Minutes - Welcome / Prayer
5 Minutes - OPEN
If you were asked by someone to describe our congregation, what are the defining marks that you would highlight?
Make a list of ways that church life changed around here in the last year or so?
As we look to the future, what are your hopes and dreams for our church?
15 Minutes - DIG
As we think about the fundamental mission of the church, what does Philippians 1:18 say is the most important priority?
How well do we do here at “preaching Christ”? What are the different forums around here where such is done on a weekly basis?
Paul claimed he became “all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some” (1 Cor. 9:22). In what ways can we do the same?
According to the Parable of the Talents (Matt. 25:14-30), how does the Lord view fear that paralyzes us from doing something for him?
When Jesus opened the scrolls in the Nazareth synagogue, he read from these words from the Prophet Isaiah –
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Have you ever noticed when you really begin to listen for hearts sounds in the lives of others, it is not uncommon to learn about people’s poverty, imprisonment, blindness, and oppression?
Talk about a situation you’ve been involved with this week where you’ve heard these heart sounds revealed.
15 Minutes - REFLECT
How do you feel about our adopting a “holistic” approach to ministry – body, mind, and spirit?
What are your feelings about our commitment to make “wellness” and becoming healthy in every aspect of life a philosophical and theological priority in our ministry priority?
How do you feel about how we are utilizing our facility for so many different entry points into the life of this church?
How do you feel about our 2007 Church Budget?
If there is (or were to be) a particular ministry that we have embraced with which you disagree, (for instance, the construction of a family life center, exercise room, café, or the use of the building by non-church related groups), how do you (or would you) normally respond?
( ) By saying nothing;
( ) By interacting with the staff, deacons, and/or elders;
( ) By interacting with other members of the congregation;.
( ) By interacting with non-members;
( ) By focusing the more on the ministries for which you are
passionate and involved;
( ) By decreasing your financial contributions.
5 Minutes - CLOSING PRAYER
What are the things you have personally committed to do this year to enhance the ministries of this church and enable us to more effective advance God’s kingdom in our community?
In what way(s) have you been convicted from this discussion?
For what should we pray tonight?
