“Because I’m a Christian, God Will Protect Me from Pain”
5 Minutes - Welcome / Prayer
5 Minutes - OPEN
Ever get the feeling that life is a constant series of problems?
Allow the group members to identify some of the problems they have faced this week.
Now that you’ve heard from everyone, go back around the circle and allow everyone who has voiced some problem(s) they have faced to reflect as to whether they have handled such with patience and grace.
15 Minutes - DIG
Read James 1:2-12. James’ words encourage us as people of God to recognize that the trials of life we experience give us an opportunity to evidence our faith in God.
As a matter of fact, consider the cosmic struggle going on in heaven between God and Satan depicted in the first two chapters of Job. See yourself in this scenario and be encouraged by God placing His confidence in your faith and integrity.
How does this perspective of what happened to Job change your view of your place in the cosmic struggle between good and evil?
With this new perspective about the “crisis” that come into our lives, see these as “turning points” and how with each crisis we are given an opportunity to serve God and see Him at work in our life.
Hebrews 12:1 follows what many call the chapter which list the Old Testament “heroes of faith.” Most of these individuals had demonstrated incredible faith in the midst of some of the most severe trials imaginable. With this great cloud of witnesses, we are admonished to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
Where are the places (i.e., family, community, workplace, church, etc.) where God is calling upon you to make a difference as you deal with the crisis in your life?
What impact are you having in these places?
What are the truths revealed in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that give you comfort?
“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
How do people normally react to problems? How does that differ with how God wants you as a Christian to react?
15 Minutes - REFLECT
Allow members of the group to reflect upon a time in their life where they went through some difficult situation and how today they know for sure their faith was deepened and they became more spiritual mature.
Describe and be as specific as you can about the growth you experienced during this season of your life.
What is Christian living all about?
5 Minutes - CLOSING PRAYER
God desires that we turn our attention from our circumstances to Him. When our eyes are upon Him, it is amazing how our crisis seems so small.
Submit all of these matters to your Heavenly Father.
