“Let Me Die Here”

5 Minutes - Welcome / Prayer

5 Minutes - OPEN

Identify someone you would characterize as being passionate. What are the characteristics that person possesses that inspires you?

What does the idea of “living passionately” mean to you?

In these times with all the pressure to be non-committal and half-hearted in our role as a disciple of Jesus Christ, why must we challenge one another to shed these chains of complacency and become “change agents” in our world?

15 Minutes - DIG

When one reflects upon what happened with those disciples who formed the ranks of the early church, what do you suppose enabled them to live with such a strong sense of meaning and purpose?

How did they come to understand they were involved in a cause which was bigger than life and the reason for their existence?

Why do you think Mark connects in chapter six the reference to being a prophet without honor; the sending out of the twelve; and the beheading of John the Baptist all in one string of thought?

Read Galatians 4:8-15. What were some of the “weak and miserable principles” to which the Galatians had reverted?

How does a life based on “performance” rob us of joy and lead us away from the heart of God?

What is the alternative to living with “performance” as our primary motivator and make your case for why this way is more pleasing to God?

Remember those familiar words from Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Notice how he sets up this call to action by stressing the importance of our becoming people of mercy, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

Take a deep look inside. Ask yourself the hard questions: (1) “What do I want to be?” and (2) “What have I become?"

Then listen to your heart.

15  Minutes - REFLECT

How does this quote from Martin Luther King, Jr. strike you?

“I submit to you that if a man hasn’t discovered something he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.”

Do you believe enough in what you’re doing these days that you wake up every morning invigorated and eager to get to it?  Describe, as best you can, this motivation!

While some live on top of the mountain, others don’t. Even those of us who “soar with eagles” occasionally spend moments in the valley. Whatever your lot, what are the big passion stealers in your life?

5 Minutes - CLOSING PRAYER

God desires that we live with passion and purpose. Does this characterize your life tonight? If not, share with the group what has happened to your fire? What can the group do to help you with this significant life struggle?

Submit all of these matters to your Heavenly Father.
