Subject: Newsletter

I pray each of you is well.  I have attached the latest Niteroi mission team newsletter.  If for some reason you cannot open the attachment then I’ve also included the link so that you can open it in your web browser: http://www.niteroimission.com/mcgee/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/The_Bridge_Vol_I_Iss_II.pdf

The team newsletter always has four articles and since there are five family units on the team one person is “off” each time.  This month was my turn to not write an article for the newsletter.  Therefore I wanted to briefly update you on a few things.

Things have been fast and furious over the past couple of months.  The training in Dallas has come to an end and I’m now living in Little Rock.  I am working with the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, my sponsoring church.  It is a blessing to be back at PV and continue to build relationships with this congregation.

I got engaged June 22nd to Sara Mobley.  I won’t write too much more about her since there’s an article in the team newsletter that provides more information.  We will be getting married September 27th at the Cone Chapel in Searcy, AR.  I would ask for prayers for us as we prepare for marriage and our move to Brazil.

On July 15th Sara and I went to Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi for twelve days.  She had never been to Brazil before so it was good for her to get a chance to see things.  We did some sight seeing, house/apt. shopping, went to a mall and grocery store, and looked at household items.  All of this helped us get a better sense for what is available and what we might take with us on the move.  It was also great to have time for us to spend with my family.  Sara had not yet had an opportunity to meet my mom so it was good to have that time for her to get better acquainted with my family.  During our time there we worshipped with the church where my folks work.  It was a blessing to be with the church and see the growth that they continue to make.

We are now back to Little Rock and things are busy trying to prepare for the wedding.

I appreciate all of your prayers and support.

Through Christ,

Nathan Zinck

Dear Friends,

July was a wonderful time here in Puerto Montt. I was able to carry out a plan that I had had for many months to take a camping trip with the teen guys of the Church. The winter break for school gave me the perfect chance. For three days we were able to rent a cabin by a lake and get to know each other better. This was my first activity as a ‘youth minister’ and everything seemed to go very well. We had several activities where we discussed things together and hopefully had fun doing it. The weather turned out to be chilly but not bad and even had some sunny time for some soccer in an open area near the cabin. I have to admit that I was impressed by these young men on how deep they thought about each topics. We enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation and became closer friends.

There was one negative to our adventure. I am afraid my camera has been damaged beyond repair due to an unfortunate fall in the lake! The boys were playing on an outcropping that had been built to protect the fishing boats. I saw a great opportunity to get them all in a picture to give to the parents. Well, to get the shot I had to climb out on this rock. Without explaining in detail, I fell and the camera didn’t react well to being submerged. I am going to try to recover some of the pictures of the camping trip that I will attach to next months report but that will likely be the last pictures in my reports for at least a few months.  I remember thinking, as I was flying through the air, 'No...not my camera!" I guess I am lucky I didn’t fall on my head. ;)

One of the sisters of the church here, Susan Espinoza, has been wonderful in helping me search for a better meeting place. We have left no stone unturned and tried to open our minds to all possibilities. I hope that we will have a suggestion ready to present to the men of the congregation this month. I have a lot of hope put into what doors God may open here and would appreciate prayers.

Other news: I am looking forward to having Tom and Pam Hook in the country starting this month for the work they do with Harding up north. They are not terribly close to me but I hope to see them before they head back to the states. The attendance was down some this month for several reasons…the biggest was winter vacation with families and kids going off to visit relatives in other parts.

I wanted to end this letter with a note about my friend Zola. I can’t say that I have ever met anyone with that name before but it fit her perfectly. She was apart of my Wednesday night group at the church and always was so kind to me. I will miss her as she passed on a few days back. I wanted to put a letter here composed of excerpts from the notes she sent me over the last year. I am sure she wouldn’t mind. Her notes were nothing profound but always made me smile and I could hear her voice in my head as I read them. If you knew her, I am sure you will be able to as well. I am thankful that God let me know here for a short time. I will miss her and her notes.

Dear Andrew,

I can't find time to do the things I want to do. I try to take a nap every day but sometimes I just can't get off to sleep. Then I sleep when I'm not supposed to do that. I'm enjoying the pretty pictures that your letters always contain.
They make me want to be there and be able to sit on the grass and just drink in the beauty of the sky and water.
Your last letter sounded better and it seems to me that you are enjoying the work that you went down there to do. In the pictures you are smiling and look happy. I think the more you become acquainted with people the better your situation will become.
I am losing ground to both age and illness. I've lost five pounds simply because there are many days that I cannot eat until late in the day. I am 83 years old. I don't know how you are supposed to feel at that age, but I am having a lot of pain in my left leg.
'm afraid I don't have much to write about except to let you know that I am praying for you to be more and more successful in your work.
May God keep you well and happy. I know that we all miss you. Have to go now.

In Him,
Zola Hooten

I am sending the mailing address for me here in Puerto Montt as a few of you have asked for it again. It looks short but works just fine. I have received 3 packages and several cards at this address. Thanks for all of you that think of me and pray for the work here!
