When Lucinaldo came to our Outreach Center a few months ago he was already convinced that he needed to make some changes in his life. Lucinaldo made his decision to become a disciple of Jesus on Thursday, October 16th.

Dear Friends,
This month was fascinating as I got to experience many new cultural events. September 18th is their independence day and it was filled with carnivals, traditional celebrations, and an inordinate amount of local food. This, of course, went on for several days before and after the 18th.
September also has noted the beginning of spring as all the flowers and trees are in bloom. The weather has slowly began to warm and the seemingly constant rain has lessened. (Although it still rains three or four times a week. ha ha ha
I was glad to make my first trip to Vina Del Mar, where Tom and Pam Hook work, since November of last year. The congregation there is doing wonderfully and I was able to visit with a couple of my friends while staying in town. That was a great lift to my spirits as almost all my contact with other people in Puerto Montt is work related and it was nice to just be a friend for a change. Vina is a beautiful city and is one of Chile’s primer tourist attractions due to its beautiful coast and constant activity. Tom and Pam seem to be doing well in their work for Harding and have there hands full looking after 30 some students. I am looking forward to November when we hope to have the students join us in Puerto Montt for services one Sunday. That will be a full building for sure.
I have tried to start the process of joining the two congregations as both are fairly small and would be more encouraged if they could see each other more often. I intend to continue visiting Correntoso two Sundays each month and ask them to make the trip in on the other weeks. I have been talking about this with them for several months and hope that the transition will be smooth. It is a long trip for them but I know they always feel encouraged to be with more brothers and sisters than just the few that meet together with me each Sunday night. Daniel has been a great blessing in helping in this process and often comes with me to help teach or lead services.
Having been here a year using public transportation, I have decided to start looking for an affordable pick-up to make my work quicker and hopefully accomplish more in less time. Public transportation here is cheep but it is difficult to be anywhere at a specific time when dependent on that alone. I have tried to weigh the benefits of this as it is sure to add to my monthly expenses. With the world economy in trouble…gas here has risen to almost 6 dollars a gallon. Buying a truck is still several months away but I have started to look and will hopefully find something reliable to travel around in. I had never really appreciated a vehicle until having to go without one for so long.
As always, I am very thankful for your notes and emails. Sometimes I am more aware of the great distance between me and my connections back home than at other points. I miss you and remember your kindness and friendship. I trust that you all are doing your best as envoys of peace and light in this world. May our God bless you and be with you.
In Him,
Andrew Sherrill
