Larry & Connie Zinck - August 25, 2008 |
August 25, 2008
Many of you have probably already heard that our oldest son Nathan plans to marry Sara Mobley next month on September 27th. Connie, Jonathan and I have tickets to fly to Arkansas so that we can attend the wedding in Searcy. Nathan and Sara spent almost two weeks with us in July. It was a joy to have Sara in our home for the first time. She and Nathan are part of the Niteroi Mission Team and expect to move to Brazil in 2009.
Andrew, our third son, graduated from Abilene Christian University in May. He just finished his first week of teaching elementary P.E. at a school located on the Navajo Reservation, not too far from Shiprock, New Mexico. Daniel is still living and working in New York City and likes it very much. Jonathan is still at home and half way through his junior year of high school.
Our most recent sister in Christ is Jucirema. She was baptized on Saturday, August 9th at the Ramos church building. That Saturday several of the ladies from our congregation spent the afternoon at the Ramos congregation for the annual women’s conference. Close to one-hundred women from six different congregations took part. The theme was Victory Over Problems. Jucirema has been studying the Bible with me twice a week since early this year and shows a genuine desire not only to know God’s word but to put it into practice in her day to day life.
Mel LaTorre Junior came to Rio and preached three nights (July 18th, 19th & 20th) on the subject of “What do you do when nothing makes sense?” In addition to the evening lectures, Mel taught a three hour class on Sunday afternoon. Everything was based on the book of Job. His insightful lessons gave all of us a great deal to think about and encouraged us to grow in our faith in God.
On Saturday, July 19th we also held our annual Vacation Bible School. It only lasted for one afternoon, but the teachers and others who organized the event made it all very special. The children went to several learning centers and all the classes were based on the life of the prophet Elisha. The youth group did an especially good job acting out Naaman being cured of leprosy.
Work on the new church building is moving along as scheduled. The workmen are still in the process of doing the foundation. Every Sunday, members from the church go out and take a peek. It is exciting to think about having a new, better and more permanent place to meet.
Thank you so much for your support and for your prayers!
Because of Jesus,
Larry, Connie and Jonathan
p.s. In the photo Jucirema is on the left. Juliana, another recent convert, is on the right.
