“Praying Like Jesus”
5 Minutes - Welcome / Prayer
5 Minutes - OPEN
If you’ve prayed today, what are the specific types of things you have prayed about?
( ) Something you are worried about;
( ) Someone you are worried about;
( ) Something you are thankful for;
( ) Someone you are thankful for;
( ) Other prayer matters:
Why is it that we pray to God about these things?
Why is it a struggle sometime to believe that prayer matters?
15 Minutes - DIG
One scholar noted that any person who prays has to start with three large assumptions:
1. God exists;
2. God is capable of hearing our prayers;
3. God cares about our prayer.
None of these three can be proved or disproved. They must either be believed or disbelieved!
In light of this observation, in what ways is your prayer life a commentary of your belief and faith in Jehovah God?
Can you identify with the words of Job and David about how it sometimes seems that God is hidden or far off (Job 19:7; 23:3, 8-9; Ps. 10:1; 13:1)?
Why is it important that Jesus was a man of prayer?
15 Minutes - REFLECT
The Greeks laughed at prayer, with their playwrights often including foolish and even obscene prayers in their plays. How is prayer ridiculed and mocked by people today? Do any examples of this come to mind?
What lessons do we learn from Jesus’ Parable of the Persistent Woman recorded in Luke 18:1-8?
5 Minutes - CLOSING PRAYER
Differing from the norm, have everyone in your LIFE Group tonight write their prayer to God on paper.
Collect these written prayers and have someone in the group read these prayers as everyone kneels in prayer before God and joined in hands and heart!
