Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.
~ Leviticus 2:13

Salt was of such value that God asked that it be added to the grain offered in worship to Him, an offering of firstfruits. Paul, writing to Rome (11:16), connects God’s acceptance to the whole holiness of the firstfruits.

So our lives, our works, our words (Colossians 4:6) should be seasoned with salt – holiness – so that those who do not believe will have reason to, and God will be praised (1 Peter 2:9).
