LIFE GROUP DISCUSSION GUIDE Wednesday Night, September 24, 2003 "Becoming Family" Application Point: As a result of this study, group members will understand the Biblical image of the church as a family and will make specific efforts in the coming week to strengthen the family ties at Pleasant Valley. 5 Minutes Welcome & Prayer
10 Minutes OPEN
FAMILY! What are your first thoughts when you think of this word?
15-20 Minutes DIG
It is not surprising that God uses “family terminology” to describe His desire that the church exist and function together as a loving family. Go around the room and allow everyone to share what about this metaphor of “family” is meaningful to them.
How has Christ destroyed all ethnic and social barriers and made it possible for all people to come together united in the church (Eph. 2:14-22)? What effect does being “in Christ” have on relationships among believers? How does love for one another become the transforming power in our lives that enables us to be united in fellowship (I Cor. 13:4-8)? What church problems could be solved by loving like the way described in I Cor. 13:4-8? What family problems would this solve? We are blessed in being able to relate to God as an adult child does with his/her parents. Why is this such an honor? 15 Minutes REFLECT
What is the best part of belonging to the family of God? Are you fully participating in the fellowship at PV?
How can we express love and acceptance to others in tangible ways? What specifically will you do this week to strengthen the family ties at Pleasant Valley?
10 Minutes PRAYER TIME Mention the empty chair. Be fishing!
Our shared experiences in Christ enable us to help one another “mature in Christ.” Does anyone have any specific prayer request as to what our LIFE Group can pray for you in your faith journey? How can we express love and acceptance toward others?
