“The Ministry of the Mundane”

5 Minutes - Welcome / Prayer

5 Minutes - OPEN

At this point in your life, to whom do you feel the greatest responsibility to serve? Rank the order of priority you place on each of these with # 1 being the highest priority.

   (    )  Your spouse

   (    )  Your family (which includes spouse and children)

   (    )  Your parents

   (    )  Your church family

   (    )  Your colleagues at work and/or business associates

   (    )  Your neighbors

   (    )  The members of your LIFE Group

   (    )  _________________________________________

Why do you feel the need to serve those you have prioritized and specifically what is it each different group listed needs from you?

15 Minutes - DIG

Why did Jesus place such an emphasis on our need to have a heart for serving others?

When Jesus stated (in different ways and on more than one occasion) that “if anyone wants to be first, he must be the last, and the servant of all” (Mark 9:35-37), what did he know about our human nature that he was confronting? Why is this principle so fundamental to our Christian life?

What does humility have to do with our becoming a servant for the Lord (Luke 18:9-14; John 13:1-17)?

Do you consider yourself to be humble? Do others who know you best consider you to be humble?

If we allowed God to open our eyes to all the possibilities of how we could become engaged in kingdom work that would transform our city, from the list given below, what are the needs in our community that cry for our attention and investment?

   (   ) Children growing up in broken homes;

   (   ) The need for preschool care;

   (   ) Teen Delinquents;

   (   ) Deterioration of our neighborhoods;

   (   ) Homelessness;

   (   ) Need for domestic violence centers;

   (   ) Life skills training;

   (   ) Drug and alcohol addiction;

   (   ) Funding / Involvement with the leading helping agencies

          in our city;

   (   ) Mental Health Centers;

   (   ) Medical / Dental Clinics;

   (   ) Transitional Issues for those being released from jail /

          prisons;

   (   ) Other Needs: ___________________________

Are you at a place in your life right now where you are convicted about your need to get involved to do something?  What level of involvement are you willing to make to respond to these needs?

15  Minutes - REFLECT

Is all this the responsibility of us individually or should this be a strategic initiative of our congregation to make a commitment to seriously get involved in responding to these matters as church?

Do you believe that our church should get involved in responding to these issues? In your mind, are we ready and capable to make our responses to these local issues a missional priority?

What responsibility does your LIFE Group have to get involved in serving together to respond to these needs?

Why is service so central to our Christian walk?

5 Minutes - CLOSING PRAYER

How have you been convicted by this discussion? What resolves have you made tonight that spring from this discussion?

Pray about these matters one by one and bring them before our Heavenly Father.
