God is on the move. Last year alone the C.A.L.L. helped open 240 new foster homes; Immerse Arkansas helped over 50 youths in crisis earn GEDs, get jobs, housing, drivers licenses; and Project Zero helped 125 foster children find forever families through adoption. These are just three of the many groups fighting for one cause in our community: no more children waiting in foster care.

To help this cause, these three groups come together each year in a joint fundraising effort, the Walk for the Waiting. Pleasant Valley is one of 70 churches involved in this effort, and PV has set a fundraising goal of $5,000 – one dollar for every Arkansas child in foster care.

The event itself is on May 6 at War Memorial Stadium and kicks off with a 5K run at 7:45 am followed by an opening ceremony at 9am and one mile family fun walk at 9:15. This effort is about as uplifting as anything you’ll be a part of this year and is a great way to see the hand of God in action on a big scale. Thousands of Christians will come together in one place; hoping, praying and working towards the same goal. We hope you will join us as part of Team PV.

These organizations, along with many others, are standing up as the body of Christ to take care of His children. We share the hope with them that one day we could live in a community where there are no more waiting children because Christians are showing up, ready to love on and show Jesus to every single child entering foster care.

What if one person in every one of Arkansas’ 6,000 churches fostered? There would be no more children waiting in group homes, DHS offices, and being bounced around from placement to placement waiting for a long-term home.

What if just one person in every 10 of those churches adopted a child this year. Then there would be no more children left wondering and hoping if they will ever have a place to belong.

It is easy to dismiss or gloss over statistics. We know that more children are added to this overwhelming crisis daily. It is a complicated, messy, long-lasting problem. But the answer is easy. The answer is Jesus. The answer is us. Will you dream with us? Will you join us? This event is a great place to start.
