Prayer is the practice of the presence of God. It is the place where pride is abandoned, hope is lifted, and supplication is made. Prayer is the place of admitting our need, of adopting humility, and claiming dependence upon God. Prayer is the needful practice of the Christian. Prayer is the exercise of faith and hope. Prayer is the privilege of touching the heart of the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:6-7

Father, in Your mercy, hear our prayers.

Pray for coal miners' survivors ... for President Obama to have success in his nuclear bomb freeze proposal. Pray for the homeless and the addicted people to find a way to use the strength and courage to be led to a better way of life. Pray for people to let go of the fear that is inside of the unexpected and give to God; become a child of Christ. Pray for government officials to unit and stop these wars and come to peace with each other to stop this deficit that is world-wide. Pray for people who do not know of Christ to be led by the Holy Spirit to seek and find truth, peace, happiness and success.
Let us not remember the past; let us rejoice in the present.

Hello all.

It has been a heart wrenching day. The reports coming out of Yushu continue to grow worse. As night falls and the temperatures drop, my sadness seems too great. Countless children, men, and women are under rubble and the night grows dark. It dips down into the 20's still each night here, maybe colder in Yushu. Reports are now saying 600 to 1000 dead. Road blocks have been set up. Formal invitations only are allowed into the area. Philip and Jamie will leave early in the morning to head with the first wave of doctors and supplies. Kenneth will either leave with them or the following day with a second supply of nurses, doctors, and medical supplies. Kenneth has been out all day after our meeting on disaster protocol that a medical team here is heading up, buying specific lists of supplies. Please be praying for their safety and their hearts and minds as they take in the loss of life not yet in HIS hands. Kenneth and the others will be taking in their own supplies of food, water, sleeping bags, and gasoline to make the return trip home.

People will be on a four to five day time limit so that two days are for travel and only two - three are spent in the disaster area (for exhaustion reasons and emotional). There is a list of help lined up so that fresh foreign crews can continually rotate in to help for a few weeks. Those getting first priority in are people with medical training, then drivers who speak the language and have a knowledge of the area. The foreign affairs office has asked for help but it must still all go through them and in their timing. They do not want many foreigners in a Tibetan disaster area right now. All will have to be specially invited. Pray that help can get in. The teams of doctors waiting to go in are not from here so pray that they do get the clearance needed. There are several expat doctors and nurses from our city waiting to go in this initial wave. We believe our factory area was not as badly damaged so are hoping to turn it into a medical care area.

Our prayers continue to go up for friends we have made and all these people we do not know but have given our hearts to. Shelby's dear friend Jenny (English name) has no word on her family. Please pray for her right now. Our hearts are so heavy and we have cried so much. We know Buck and his father were killed. So many we have worked with are grieving this news.

We will keep you updated and let you know when Kenneth will leave. Lots of love....

Tanja Shackelford

Please send this out to family and friends as you wish.

Linda Alexander is urgently seeking a live-in assistant who can help with housecleaning and care of Charles; a clean, honest non-smoker who will share her home (there is a bedroom with bath available downstairs).

If you can help or know of someone who can, please contact her.

And please remember this couple in your prayers.
