40 DAYS OF PRAYER

Monday, April 19 – Friday, May 28

The vision overview shared by staff and shepherds for the next ten years is just the outline. We want to align our hearts, minds, thoughts, and actions with the vision God has for this church family. Over the next 40 days, we will spend time in prayer to discern God’s will for our filling in the blanks together.

Twelve prayer prompts have been prepared by PV members to guide us. Each one highlights a vision strategy we will focus on in the coming months. You can find these prompts below and in the SNAP and Friday Follow-Up emails. Following this time of church-wide discernment, initiative teams will be assembled and empowered to begin working on the first vision strategies: Guest Services, Bridge Building (racial bus ride, unity conference, bridge groups), Discipling/Empowering the Next Generation, Men’s & Women’s Ministries, and Sunday Experience.

PRAYER THEMES

Pray through each theme throughout the week in your own way, utilizing the two prompts below as a guide.

WEEK 3 – Generational Generosity (Build Bridges)

May 4th

from Gerald New

Psalms 78:1-7

Prompt: Passing down the Word is very difficult, especially considering children’s experiences with things that can’t be seen (i.e. fairy tales, etc.). But a distinction must be made on what is real, eternal, and worth it. It is a holy task to pass down the stories and essentials of the Christian faith, from generation to generation.

Challenge: Write a list of reasons why you believe God is real and share it with your family, friends, or neighbors.

Bio: Gerald New. Wife- Sonya New (married 16 years). Matthew-14, Katie-12. Originally from Jacksonville, AR.

May 7th

from Robert & Eleanor Walls

Psalms 145:3-7

Prompt: Today’s changing culture is causing grave concern for many; fears for how the next generation might overtake us. But has it not ever been so? King David declared long ago, “…All is meaningless….Fear God….for this is the WHOLE of man.” We have a refuge in Him and we have a charge from Him: to train those coming after us!

Challenge: Intentionally share stories with somebody of a different age group/generation about the faithfulness of God in your life. Ask that same person to share with you about an example of God’s faithfulness in their life too.

Bio: Robert and Elanor Walls have been members at PV since 1967 with kids Dee Bristow (LA), Wesley Walls (PV), and Shelley Padgett (GA) and seven Grandchildren.
