Why Do We Pray if God Knows Everything?

A question we hear rather frequently is, “Why should we bother to pray?  After all, God already knows what he’s going to do, so why bother to ask him to do something when it’s going to happen anyway?”

Think of a close friendship you have in your life.  Can you imagine never talking to that person?  When we are friends with God, we will want to talk to him.  The Bible says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Phil. 4:6).

This is why thinking that prayer is only asking God for something is mistaken.  Our prayers should include prayer, thanksgiving and praise.  And, our requests.
