Why Is Grace So Transformative?

There is not a person alive who does not have a great need in their lives for the saving grace of God.  Salvation is impossible without it.  Alexander Campbell recognized this:

Grace is favor, and not right or obligation, and, therefore, all grace is free, unmerited favor.  If we spoke of sovereign grace we should imply that there was a grace not free and sovereign, and of such grace I cannot form a single conception…  We are saved by grace, from its alpha to its omega, and anyone who sins that grace may abound is as self-deceived as any pagan in the world.  Grace is the most active, operative, working principle in the universe.
―Millennial Harbinger, 1850

Grace has been misunderstood, misrepresented and misinterpreted by many, but the Bible teaches clearly on the subject.  It is only when we have correct understanding and an appreciation of grace that we really understand our spiritual poverty, which then prepares us to accept the grace God freely gives to all who seek it.
