Arkansas Shepherding Conference Who Is The Lord That I Should Obey Him? Ladies Bible Class Resumes January 18-19 A Master of His Craft Celebration Monday Evenings Project 4:4
Special Haiti Earthquake Collection Nets $81,560

Members of Pleasant Valley donated $70,000 in a special collection Sunday, January 17 to be wholly used for earthquake relief in Haiti. Donations, including some from the community, between that date and January 26 have pushed that total to $81,560.

On Tuesday, January 12, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck the city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti with a level of devastation unknown to the island nation even in the aftermath of hurricanes years before. As many as 200,000 are estimated dead and, as of this writing, hope is expiring for survivors still trapped in the wreckage of buildings in and around the city.

Help has been pouring in from the United States and other nations – and doubtless many of our members had already been contributing to those efforts as well.

PV elders, who decided to announce the special collection, have also chosen to publicize Pleasant Valley as a point in the Little Rock community where donations to assist in the recovery can be accepted.

Pleasant Valley has supported mission efforts for many years in Haiti, including Pacius Gueston (see links to pre-earthquake video here and article here ) and his wife Linda and Emmanuel Alexandre in Gonaives, and the Haiti Christian Development Project (HCDP - http://hcdp.net/), overseen by PV member and local cardiologist Dr. David Smith.

(See this link for a January 18 KTHV news story and video about the work of Harding University missionary-in-residence Oneal Tankersley, brother to PV member Dwane Tankersley.)

Tax-deductible contributions to the church for this effort will be used exclusively for earthquake relief in Haiti. They may be brought to the church office between 9:00am and 4:00pm weekdays.

March 4 - 6, 2010

PURPOSE

11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-13)

The 2nd Arkansas Shepherding Conference is organized with the goal of equipping elders and church leaders to shepherd congregations for the glory of God. If you are an elder, deacon, minister or other church leader who loves the church and desires to be more equipped for ministry, this conference is for you.

  • David Wray’s messages will address the spiritual formation of elders, the pros and cons of the “shepherding model,” what happens in a good elders’ meeting, and healthy interaction between elders and ministry staff.
  • Using Case Studies, Ross Cochran will facilitate Breakout Sessions that get us talking with each other about issues that face us all.
  • Panels composed of elders and ministers from around the State will share what is working well for their congregations in the “How Do We” sessions Saturday.
  • In times of Devotion and Reflection, we will process what we are learning.
  • Fellowship in worship and at mealtimes will facilitate interaction that will bless us all.
